As one of the very few detailed accounts of Huxley’s studio work in the 1950s, the account by fellow writer Dun Roman is worth quoting at length:

“Huxley showed up bright and early the first morning, all smiles and eager to start, and in very short order we became painfully aware that he was on the verge of total blindness. With pale once-blue eyes layered over like milk glass, he groped apologetically about for the first few minutes, stumbling against the furniture and into the walls until he got used to his surroundings, and all the while bubbling over with enthusiasm about what fun we would have rewriting Don Quixote for little Mr. What’s-his-name, McGrew? McGoogle?”

Apparently no one connected with the project had the courage to inform Huxley that the jokes were to be based on Mr. Magoo’s visual handicap.
