Taking place in England, This Rage of Echoes follows Mason Konrad and those he loves and meets who are experiencing problems with Echoes, or doppelgangers that for some reason seek to kill human beings. Eventually Mason learns just how incorporated he is in the relationship between humans and Echoes, and must find a way to use his past to fight them off. Like I said before, not what I was expecting, but not that bad. There were some very repetitive descriptions of characters, especially the mummy, but other than that, I have no problems with this novel. A solid four out of five stars. Simon Clark falls in a range of talent in between genius and average when it comes to horror writers, which makes him one of the better authors found in Leisure Books' catalog. His novels are built on ideas bring a bit of novelty to the genre, and This Rage of Echoes is no exception. The device in this book is a rehash of doppelgänger mythology where the main character is constantly fending off the attacks of people around him who acquire his features and behaviors. It's an effective horror hook because his talent for generating doubles means that nobody he interacts with is safe. Clark is uncharacteristically repetitive in this novel, summarizing previous action unnecessarily. Characterizations are uniformly flat--the 2nd most developed character is a figment of the narrator's imagination. Still, the ideas veer in to Science-Fiction in an interesting direction, so it's worth a read. A strange horror novel about a man who discovers that anyone he comes into contact with begins turning into a homicidal clone of him. Also his childhood imaginary friend, an Egyptian mummy called Natsaf-Ty, has begun to reappear. It's actually pretty good, though it does drag on a bit in the middle. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
For Mason Konrad the future's looking good. An apartment in the city, a job in TV, then one night he's attacked. Worse is to come - his attacker looks exactly like him. Soon he'll understand that something unique has invaded his flesh - a certain monstrous something that transforms ordinary people into replicas of him.
