Trisha can't stand her rotten redheaded older brother, he beats her at everything. Whether it is eating blackberries, burping, or eating raw rhubarb Richie always wins. One day, their Bubbie tells Trisha the magic of wishing upon a star. Trisha wishes for what she wants most, to beat her older brother at something, anything. Trisha's wish comes true but not in the way she expected.
Another one of Polacco's autobiographies, she captures the life she lived on her Bubbie's Michigan farm. ( )

Tricia and her older brother never get along. He drives her crazy. When her grandmother tells her about wishing on shooting stars, she gets a perfect idea. She wants to do anything better than her brother. Growing up with two brothers I could definitely relate to this story. I think any child with siblings would enjoy this story. The illustrations add to the humor of the story. Big brothers are a pain, but you have to love them. ( )

Richard, our narrators older brother, beats her at everything. Even a rhubarb eating contest. After wishing on a star, she beats her brother for longest spins on the carousel. But she fell off after and wakes up in her bed. She finds out her , brother carried her home and got a doctor. The two finally end their constant rivalry, and spend the night sleeping outside with their Bubby.
I thought this story was really cute, and accurately shows what it's like to have siblings, and how they'll be there for you when it really matters. ( )

She had problems with her older brother. He could do everything better than his younger sister. She wanted to figure out what she can do better than her brother. She found a way to beat her brother. They eventually formed a bond over this. It is a great story for a sister and a brother. ( )

This a wonderful story, and I can relate to this because I have siblings. This story is about a young girl who was jealous of her older brother Richie. Even though Richie is older, he does everything better than her, and teased her. She doesn't understand why her grandparents and her mom like Richie so much. She always wanted to beat her brother in something, but can't. However, she made a wish that she'll be able to do something better than Richie. When they went to the carnival she did so many attempts of everything and became successful. That's when she injured herself and got stitches. She rode the merry-go-round longer than Richie but fell off because she was dizzy. She was so happy and proud that she beat Richie, so their relationship changed at the fair. I believe the theme is family because Richie still loves his sister, and their relationship became stronger. I know the children would enjoy this story because it's relatable to kids with siblings.
