If you want to pick one book to get you started in button collecting, this would be a good choice. There is a good overview of each class of buttons in the National Button Society classification system. The authors make insightful comments addressing motivation of different kind of collectors - goofies tend to be most appreciated by non-collectors, vegetable ivory is a east way to start learning about manufacturing technique, these tend to be expensive while these others tend to be cheaper... Don't be fooled by the mention of "restoring" in the subtitle. If there is any guidance on restoring buttons, I couldn't find it. Good photos but could have used some photos to illustrate backmarks/shanks, etc especially when called out in the text. ( )

Wonderful book all about...Buttons. Pictures of buttons and the history of all kinds etc. Very informative and a nice book to go back for reference. ( )
