Eash letter has the Egyptian hieroglyph plus an explaination of what the symbol stands, in addition gives the sound that the English letter makes. ( ) Critique: Genre: This book gives great details about how to draw each of the letters of the alphabet using hieroglyphs. It is factual information and relates each of the letters to stuff the children know about but can relate to Egyptian culture. However, the book in general does not provide much detail about the Egyptican culture, just about hieroglypics in a text the students can understand. Illustrations: The illustrations are important because it helps add to the book and keep readers attentive. Each letter is represented by a picture. There are also small pictures showing how to use the hieroglyphs which is very important for children who are trying to learn how to. It allows for multiple intelligence learning to take place by not just explaining it, but showing it through pictures also. Media: oil paint This was a really neat alphabet book. There was a picture for each English alphabet letter sound based off of Egyptian artwork, but the name of the picture was spelled out in hieroglyphs. The hieroglyph for each letter sound was given, with an explanation of what it was a picture of. The importance of the main picture on the page was also explained, and in the back the hieroglyphs are listed with explanations on how they were written. #96, 2006 We checked this book out of the library to complement our current study of ancient Egypt. My son really liked it – it’s a rhyming picture alphabet book, showing the hieroglyphs used in ancient Egyptian writing. I found the rhymes pretty uninspired, but the additional information that accompanied them was interesting, although rather a random assortment of facts about ancient Egypt. The illustrations are good. At the end of the book, there is a prose section with some historical data, and the book is meant to come with a stencil, so children can do their own hieroglyphic writing. (This library copy no longer has the stencil, but we have one around here somewhere, so my son will be able to do this as soon as we find it). According to other research that I’ve done in the past, the instructions this book offers as to how to write in hieroglyphics is not accurate, but it was a nice introduction to the subject, nonetheless. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
