Adams organized the Boston Tea Party-an act of rebellion by the Sons of Liberty that led directly to the Revolutionary War. This book describes the life of Samuel Adams and the accomplishes he holds for America, as well as before. This book assists the reader in gaining knowledge of Samuel Adams and the profound life he held. There is detailed information as well as dates and descriptions. I would recommend this book to be used in a history classroom. ( )

This book is about the life of Samuel Adams who was an american patriot and father of the United States. The book tells of when he was born and everything he has accomplished until his death. Samuel Adams was never afraid to speak his mind and he always did what he thought was right. This is a good book to share with children while learning about the Boston Tea Party. ( )

A Picture Book of Samuel Adams tells the story of Samuel Adams, an American patriot and founder of the United States. The Adlers first inform readers that Samuel Adams was born on September 27, 1722, in Boston, Massachusetts and he was one of twelve children of Mary and Samuel “Deacon” Adams. The Adlers then provide the reader with background information on Samuel Adams education. Readers learn that Adams was taught by his mother to read and write, and at the age of six, he was sent to the Boston Grammar School. At the age of fourteen, Samuel Adams entered Harvard College and studied history and philosophy. In 1743, Adams was awarded an advanced degree from Harvard. Next, readers are informed about the jobs Samuel Adams had once he finished school. He first worked in a Boston bank, but lost the job because he spent more time talking about politics than banking. Then, his father gave him money to start his own business, but he lent most of it to a friend who never paid him back. Next, Adams went to work in his father’s brewery, but again lost his job because he spent more time talking about politics than working. In 1747, Adams and some friends started a newspaper, the Public Advertiser. Next, the Adlers inform readers on how Adams lead the struggle for liberty. Readers learn that Adams instigated the Boston Tea Party, an act of rebellion by the Sons of Liberty that would lead directly to the Revolutionary War, was a delegate at the First and Second Continental Congresses, and was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The Adlers then inform readers of how Adams kept busy with Massachusetts politics after the Revolutionary War. He was elected to the state senate in 1782 and lieutenant governor in 1789 and became governor after John Hancock died. At the end of the book, readers learn that Samuel Adams retired from public life in January of 1797 and passed away on October 2, 1803. In this book, the Alders offer a compelling hero for young readers, a man passionate about freedom and determined to make a difference. ( )

The illustrations of this picture book ties in the story about the life of Samuel Adams. Adams was not fond of Britain's rule over the colonies based on his countless rebellions that led to the Revolutionary War. This book is perfect to share with children during a history lesson following the book about Betsy Ross and the first American Flag. ( )
