"Two weeks before the big day, Welsh Constable Evans is ready to be done planning for his wedding. Just as he's unloading the last boxes into the new home he and his bride, Bronwen, have chosen, he runs into a teenager whose girlfriend has gone missing on Mt. Snowdon. Despite his apprehensions about getting involved in a new case, Evans cannot resist helping the worried hiker. A search yields no trace of the girl but does turn up a well-stocked bunker, complete with chains and handcuffs. Are the two related? And if so, where is the girl being held?" "When a series of clues is uncovered, Evans and the police begin to see that they are dealing with a clever but twisted mind. Then a second person vanishes and this time Evans knows the victim: Bronwen. He realizes the culprit's vendetta might be a personal one and that the actual target might have been him all along."--BOOK JACKET.… (mais)

This author, who has been writing for years, is one I've just discovered but don't intend to forget. She has at ;east 3 mystery series going (Molly Malloy, Constable Evans, and ), but so far, this is the one I like best. There is actually little character depth and little growth, but the characters are not flat or without surprise. The really good characteristic is the "puzzle" or mystery. While the insane monster who has created an underground bunker, supposedly for holding a prisoner, gives the reader some clues so that said reader can participate in the search, we aren't told who it is who is giving us the clues until very late in the story, so the plot is not spoiled. It does, in fact, intensify the suspense.. The clues and action are well paced to hold the reader's interest and keep things moving. It is a fascinating look inside a police investigati on where consideration is given to every possible track down of any sort of clue. The other plus for this book is that it takes place in Wales and offers Welsh customs, speech, and descriptions of the landscape (I want to go.), so it's a mini vacation all around. ( )

Fair reading, but the "solution" comes totally out of left field, and is not at all credible in its logistics.
I read it before the prior book in sequence, but that didn't make much difference. ( )

With Constable Evan Evans wedding one week away he's involved in a search for a missing girl on the mountain. This leads to discovering a hidden bunker and before you know musical clues are being sent to Evan. As Evan's fiance becomes more involved in the final stages of preparing for the wedding and setting up house and Evan's mother arrives causing some conflict, Evan becomes more involved with his work. Bronwen goes missing and Evan believes it's related to the other missing girl. A couple of plot twists and a few red herrings to make an easy audio book to listen to while walking. ( )

Ninth in the Evan Evans Welsh village police procedural/cozy series. Evan and Bronwen’s wedding fast approaches as Evan begins work on a case of a missing teenage girl lost while hiking on Mt. Snowdon. When the search turns up a hidden bunker dug into the mountainside, people begin to fear that perhaps this is a serial event. And when the perp starts sending musical clues to Evan, the local police force calls in a profiler to help aid their search. Will Evan solve this case in time to be married? And will his and Bronwen’s mothers drive them all crazy before it takes place? I did figure out the bad guy (though I admittedly followed the red herring for awhile) ahead of time, but didn’t solve the ‘whole’ puzzle. Nice plot twists and turns and another pleasant interlude in Llanfair. ( )

Another satisfying Evan Evans mystery. ( )
