Very pleasantly surprised! Good, old-fashioned, romance/thriller; enjoyable writing style; I likened the book very quickly to a Dick Francis novel. Story set in the UK; second book written about the Tavistock family (apparently), but no references to anything happening before that I picked up on - sign of a good writer to me, that any book can stand on its own merit, regardless of order of reading! I'd recommend this book if Christie is your cup of tea, but it would be far too mild if Val McDermid is your poison! ( )

bij haar eerste poging wordt ze tot haar verbijstering gestoord door nog een indringer: de chique Jordan Tavistock. Wantrouwen overheerst, maar desondanks vonkt er ook iets ander tussen hen - en dat gebeurt bij de volgende ontmoetingen weer. Alleen geven de omstandigheden weinig tijd om daarbij stil te staan. Letterlijk. Want al gauw is hun grootste zorg niet of een dief en een gentleman wel zo'n goede combinatie vormen... maar of ze lang genoeg aan de dood kunnen ontsnappen om daarachter te komen!

I'm normally a big fan of Gerritsen, but I didn't realise until part way through this story, that this is one of Gerritsen's earliest books. It contains more romance and a lot less horror/gore than her current works, so failed to draw me in. It's ok, but it's not at the levelI usually expected. ( )

Should have been warned by the Mills & Boon imprint but thought I'd try it anyway, but quickly became clear it was a saccharine laced plot and gave up. ( )

Soon, Jordan chances upon Clea Rice again, and after a narrow escape from an exploding car, their destinies seem to become irrevocably entwined. While Clea thinks Jordan would be safer leaving her to fend for herself, Jordan isn’t about to let that happen. Lots of pursuit and escape, surveillance and betrayal, hair dye and wigs. Missing expensive artwork, Lloyds, sinking ships, a bit of sexy romance and hitmen all make an appearance. An enjoyable novel: Tess Gerritsen always does intrigue well. ( )
