Enjoyed the first in this series, which was very good since it looks like there are a whole lot more installments to look forward to. Good plot and interesting cast of characters. ( ) family, family-dynamics, Atlantic-ocean, ocean-liner, historical-fiction, historical-places-events, historical-research, historical-setting, history-and-culture, reporter, theft***** This book has some of my favorite elements: historical setting, murder/thievery, private agents as well as an amateur sleuth. A good foundation is laid before getting down to criminal acts and the multiple characters are brought into sharp focus. So let the sleuthing begin! Loved it! I requested and received a free ebook copy from Allison & Busby via NetGalley. Thank you! The launch of a great new floating palace steamship was a very big deal in 1907. The Lusitania, the latest of these belonging to the famed Cunard lines is ready for it's maiden voyage across the North Atlantic and the ship is filled with passengers from all walks of life. While is it a symbol of peace and inter nation cooperation it was also built with wartime in mind. It could be converted to an arms bearing vessel without difficulty. The Germans have been building up their navy at this time and indeed it is a German ocean liner that holds the record for the fastest transatlantic passage. It is the hope that the Lusitania will take this honor away so there is more than meets the eye in this September voyage. With more than 2000 people on board including passengers and crew it is not surprising that there is covert security on board. Watching the high society first-class passengers is undercover detective George Dillman. His skills are just what is needed on this action packed voyage because there is a murder fore the first days have passed. I enjoyed this novel and it really gave me a craving for some ocean travel. I am checking out some cruises on line as soon as I can. Thank heaven for vicarious pleasures. George Dillman has been hired as ship detective aboard the Cunard's newest ship, the Lusitania. It isn't long until the ship's plans go missing. Then a murder occurs. The crew keeps the murder under wraps as the investigation continues. There are all sorts of characters -- some likeable, and others quite the opposite -- many of whom are suspects. I found the mystery likeable enough, but I'm not convinced Dillman is a good detective. I think he just got a "lucky break" (if you can call it that). Still, it's an interesting twist on a locked room puzzle, and I will probably read others in the series as I find them. After reading Murder on the Celtic, I wanted to read the first book in the series, where George meets his future partner. A fun read with characters from 1st, 2nd and 3rd class (quite literally!) so you get a more complete picture of the reasons why people sailed these ships. It was either this or a zeppelin! sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

September 1907. George Dillman sets sail from Liverpool to New York on the Lusitania's maiden voyage. Posing as a passenger, Dillman is in fact an undercover detective hired by the Cunard Line to keep an eye out for petty crimes. But after some uneventful days aboard, the ship's blueprints are stolen and then a body is found. As Dillman works to get to the bottom of the crimes, he makes an unusual friend, first-class passenger Genevieve Masefield, and the two uncover secrets aboard the ship that prove explosive. The Lusitania was a British ocean liner that was sunk in 1915 by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland, killing 1,198 passengers and crew. Lusitania held the Blue Riband prize for the fastest Atlantic crossing and was briefly the world's largest passenger ship until the completion of the Mauretania.
