They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder but I am inclined to think that it makes the heart wander. This is the synopsis of the latest "Ramage" novel. Away from his love, he finds that the presence of beauty can overwhelm fading beauty. This book also contains a sprinkling of humor as well as the expected violence of naval warfare. (

This book begins with the mutiny at Spithead (http://www.historytoday.com/alex-barker/mutiny-royal-navy-spithead), then proceeds to the Windward Islands. On the way there they encounter a slave ship, an excellent description is given. The story is exciting!

A competent story about a naval hero in the 1790's to Waterloo, written by a naval historian. Our hero has progressed to the rank of Commander, and to the command of a brig in the West Indies. Some trickery and violence ensues. (
