Three stories, all of which end abruptly, depicting three different life stages of three different Pakistani girls/young women (and connected to The Netherlands in some way or other).
Interesting because of the cultural insight.
Interesting because of the way the girls/women deviate of that which is 'the norm' or 'the rule'. And I might add that the same goes for the men in these stories.

The writing style is not entirely consistent. At points it is practical and no-nonsense, at other points beautiful and lyrical, but worse, at many points the prose is so heavy with metaphor and similes it topples over and falls down deep into a cliff.

The last story, Devotie, has a strong bdsm element in its atmosphere; the first story, Bloei, deals with the rape of an underaged girl by a family member; while the second story, Bruidsnacht, just has explicit material, and could therefore be qualified as the least icky of the three. All three stories are unsettling, but Bruidsnacht was the story that horrified me the most, because of the oppression wafting from the events depicted in inescapable and nauseating clouds.
