Christopher Pike books were as essential to my teen years as WPDH & the Newburgh Mall. I continued to pick them up into college, as fun reads to balance the textbooks & heavy literature.

But this is Pike's first adult novel, & it was unlike anything I expected from him. It may not be a 5 star book for everyone, but it's still a worthwhile read for most readers.

Sati is a very unusual young woman. Her story is something of a re-telling of some ancient tale. But then, aren't all the best stories? ( )

There was a time when this was my favorite book ever. EVER. Around 1995. ( )

"Sati" was a worthwhile read, but probably not as much as it would have been had I read it the time I got the book (over 12 years ago). It wasn't bad at all, though I found some parts a little too didactic. ( )

Michael the truck driver picks up a young woman who is hitchhiking in the desert and brings her home with him. She claims she's God. Theosophy ensues.

I was largely like.....um, whatever. ( )

My absolute favorite book of all time. I have no words for it. Well, no words, except for: "read it." I know no one who has not loved this book. Many are wary because of the description, but, with some coaxing, they read it and were as amazed as I was. Simple and beautiful. ( )
