It's about an old man, who, with his wife gone, misses her soup and decides to make some, but can't remember quite how to make it, so he tries to make it over and over in bigger and bigger pots with more ingredients, but he always has more and more guests to help him eat it. It has beautiful pictures and is so fun and with so many learning opportunities. You could bring in different size pots, have the kids sing the song with you, have them count the guests when they knock or when they eat, and as the teacher you can tip your head when he does and talk about how much soup he's going to need next time, do some guessing. There's a lot of onomatopoeia which is engaging. If you're really adventurous, you could have the kids help you make soup or just bring soup to class. It's also great for talking about how friends eat together, reconciliation, and how different cultures value eating together. This is a folktale story about a grandpa who decides to make his late wife's meatball soup. He uses his small pot and tries to remember his wife's recipe. When the soup is made there is a knock at the door, the man invites a little mouse in to come have some soup with him. The next day the man remembers more to the recipe and makes a bigger pot of soup. The mouse brings a friend. This pattern continues for a few days until the grandpa remembers the whole recipe and a whole neighborhood of kids shows up to share in the meal with him. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

Review: I love the sweet grandpa in “Grandpa’s Soup.” He wants to make the soup his dear departed wife used to make, and works to get the recipe just right. At first, he is too sad to do anything since his beloved wife died and he lives on his own, however one day he missed the soup that his wife used to make for him and he wants to try to make it himself. Bur he didn't get it right. He follows an ascending form as he uses a bigger pot and adds more ingredients each day. As increasing number of animals and kids come to eat with him, the soup became better and better. Finally, he gets the soup just right and shares it with all the children.
I think it is a realism fiction because this book is written for today's youths, representing contemporary times, based on real-world situations. ( )
