It's a great book, if a little under edited. The plot gets fuzzy towards the climax, but is still easy to follow. I wish they added to the book a little more, because they left a lot of questions untouched. Some suggestive content, but is mild. ( )

The Squad: Perfect Cover is the first of two books about a group of high school girls who are actually government agents that operate to create situations in which other government agencies like the CIA can step in and arrest criminals. Not the most unusual premise I've ever seen, but it comes close. Jennifer Lynn Barnes is a master at giving voice to her characters, and this book is no different. The story works because we see it through the eyes of Toby, who becomes part of The Squad, even though she hates cheerleaders and sees herself as the opposite of what a cheerleader has to be. As a computer hacker and a third level white belt in Karate, she fits the role of secret agent perfectly if only she can remember the words to the next cheer.
The story is very light, but also a fun read. Many questions are left unanswered at the end of the book, but I assume those are addressed in the sequel, The Squad, Killer Spirit. ( )

I liked [b:The Squad|7331435|A Visit from the Goon Squad|Jennifer Egan|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1290480318s/7331435.jpg|8975330] and I guess I have to -begrudgingly- agree with the people out there saying it was shallow, because it was (a little but it was obvious by the summary that is was going to be at least a little shallow.

But whatever, I though it was good!

I liked the different look on cheerleaders; I mean, think about it.. when was the last time you read a YA book when the cheerleader wasn't the evil-(ahem)-witch? I personally can't remember.

So yeah, this was a nice refreshing book that really proves to you why you don't judge people by appearances.. I mean who knows? Maybe that ir-headed girl in your English Lit class is actually an undercover operative? Just something to think about..
