This is a great overview of the life of this Ontario pioneer. Traill, along with her husband, journeyed to Canada in 1832 to homestead on land near Peterborough, Ontario. It was very difficult time for these people who had been raised in gentile society and now found themselves isolated in the bush doing work they were not familiar with or prepared to do. Traill's sister, Susanna Moodie made the same trip to the same area in the same year. Moodie's account of those years in the bush was more bleak while Traill always maintained a positive view of her life as a pioneer in the wilderness. This brief biography is aimed at young adults to encourage them to peruse the original works of these two women. ( )
