It's possible that Well's adaptation of the titular story could have been cleverer, but I enjoyed the whole story very much, especially the black-figure pictures of bunnies in chariots and on horseback on the end papers. ( )

I enjoyed this book, and it was adorable. This book is about two bunnies who are siblings, and one of the siblings is trying to teach the other sibling a lesson on why it is not a good thing to snoop around. Then comes in one of the best Greek mythology story, Pandora's box. As Ruby is telling Max the story, the book provides the reader with illustrations of Pandora and her mother in the form of bunnies as well. This book would be great to use in a classroom for 2nd or 3rd graders during a Greek mythology lesson. ( )

This book retells the story of Pandora's box. I liked the retelling part, but I'm not particularly fond of Max and Ruby AT ALL, so I was kind of biased going into this. ( )

This book is about two siblings, Max and Ruby and Ruby does not want her younger brother Max going in her room and touching her jewelry box. Max does not do a very good job at listening to his sister and goes in there anyways. Ruby catches Max and decided to tell Max a story about Greek mythology that was a similar situation to her and Max’s. A young girl was told not to peek into her mother’s jewelry box, and she did not listen and did so anyways when her mother was away. All kinds of bugs flew out the box and the little girl knew she would be in trouble because there was no way she could clean up this mess. The bug in the jewelry box thinks that the little girl has learned her lesson and clean up the mess before her mother returns home. Ruby tells this story to Max in hopes of him learning a lesson from the little girl. This would be considered a fable because it is a book with animals, and it conveys a moral, which is to listen when told to. ( )

"Max and Ruby's First Greek Myth" is a fun story that incorporates Greek mythology. Ruby hangs a sign on her door saying no keep out, but Max cannot fight the temptation and sneaks in. He goes straight for her jewelry box and Ruby catches him. She tells Max a similar story about snooping and refers to the classic Greek myth "Pandora's Box." During the story, Pandora cannot resist the urge to open her mother's jewelry box. Once she opens it a bunch of nasty bugs swarm the room. A spider ends up catching the bugs before Pandora gets caught. When her mom returns she puts a spell on the box and it turns back into a normal jewelry box. Ruby uses this myth to teach Max a lesson. I enjoyed this story because it takes a classic Greek myth and turns it into a story young readers will understand. ( )
