First, for those that may not have paid attention, this is a short story in printed form. So, it's very small, 28 pages as indicated by Amazon. The size is comparable to saddle stitched booklets made from folding 8 1/2 by 11 paper in half. It is perfect bound, like a regular book, but I think it just barely squeaked by on having enough pages to do so! However, I prefer print to e-books and it's nice to get a story this way. When JD Robb released some of her stories from multi-author anthologies as tiny mass market paperbacks I was delighted. Why buy an anthology for just one story you really want? The price is a little high compared to a typical mass market paperback that's about $7 for a novel, but reasonable considering it's a small press and niche genre.

I knew it was a short story, so I wasn't expecting a lot. I was expecting a sweet holiday story about two friends finally admitting their feelings for each other, and some hot sex. Unfortunately, that's not what I got. Seb and Jamie fight constantly and their friends have had enough. The current argument concerns two "secret santa" gifts they got that they each think the other gave as a prank. The gifts are meant to get them talking instead of fighting. However, the two spent most of the 28 pages arguing anyway. Even when they finally admitted their feelings near the end, I didn't get the graphic sex I kept hoping would pop up during the argument. There was some sexy kissing and groping, and though it was implied we never got to "see" them go all the way! Readers never learn who the secret santa was either. Overall, I was disappointed. It wasn't bad, just not what I wanted. A story this short doesn't offer room for fleshing out characters (though she tried), so I was expecting some steam to pick up the slack - fewer pages of arguing, and more of the making up!

Overall, though I didn't enjoy this story as I hoped, I will try more by this author. Her style is good, and her books have good reviews. I think her talent may be better suited to novels instead of short stories. Also, her novella His Gift sounds intriguing, and has a positive review from a reviewer I respect (Elisa Rolle) so I hope the publisher decides to print that. I'd pay $3.95 to try it. ( )

Seb and Jamie are friends. Opposite characters and opposite life style. But still friends. They argue, they fight, they dance around each other never admitting there is more between them than only friendship.

Then on Christmas Eve they have the ultimate fight, on a very ridicolous argument, and the sparks between them flare and it's no more possible to deny that, like the old motto, Opposites Attract.

A very short story, less then 30 pages, but I think pretty true: sometime to find the true love you haven't to search far from you are.
