This book is about a duck named Max trying to create the perfect soup when his friends think he has fallen in. This book is silly and simple which makes it great for young readers. The book has animals as characters who are involved in a silly soup dilemma. This makes the book lighthearted and easy to read. The book also is short and simple. This doesn’t confuse the reader with complex words or plots. This book easily lends itself to be read a loud with young children and can be fun for everyone to read. ( )

Might have enjoyed it more if I was familiar with the series ( )

This book is about a duck who is cooking soup, and when he is away getting chives, his friends come home and think he has accidentally cooked himself. They search and strain the soup to find him, and ruin Max's soup. This book is good for teaching teamwork and problem solving because they worked together to find max in the soup. This would also be good for revising because max edits his soup to make it better, and his friends edit it because they think he made a mistake. In the end they all come to the same conclusion and max forgives them for ruining his soup. ( )

This book has a good lesson that things are not always as they appear. The animals just know that something happened to the duck and they dramatically search for him. Then he turns up and it is not what the animals thought. Very entertaining book. Genre, fantasy as a duck is cooking soup and other animals rush around to find him, Media, water colors. ( )

I loved this book! It is super quirky and has a great lesson to go along with it. Duck Soup by Jackie Urbanovic draws you in with its title and illustrations. I first assumed this story would be about duck soup, but I was wrong it was about Duck making soup. I loved its use of animals as the main characters in this book. The duck is talking to himself while adding ingredients to his special soup and when he goes missing the dog, cat, and bird rush to find him in the soup pot. Another reason this book is so great are the reactions of the other animals. They assume because he is missing, that Duck is in the soup pot. They freak out looking for him; Dakota the cat, assumes carrots are Duck’s feet. And Bebe the bird thinks small onions are Duck’s eyeballs. I feel like the big idea of this story is not to overreact. The animals in the books did so and dumped Duck’s soup looking for him. They wasted their dinner and hurt Duck’s feelings in the process because they didn't think things through first. Children can relate to this book because they don’t take the time to think things through; this book gives a good example of what happens when you overreact too quickly. ( )
