This is a heartfelt book about how a little girl deals with her grandfather's death. Pearl wonders how she will get along with grandpa. She does not go to her grandfather's funeral because she wants to remember him playing checkers. Pearl does not attend the funeral and goes to school instead but it is hard for her to focus and she is overcome with sadness. Pearl misses her grandpa. Pearl and her father plant some marigolds in memory of her grandpa and this is when Pearl realizes her memory of her grandpa will live on through her. I especially liked how the author added burial and mourning customs from around the world to the back of the book. It helps us see the burial tradition from other cultures. ( ) "Pearl's Marigolds For Grandpa," by Jane Breskin Zalben, was about a young girl who lost her grandpa. She was coming up with ways to keep his memory and traditions alive. Her grandma told her that her grandpa would continue to live through her. This was a very cute story, and even though it didn't touch directly on religion, there are some religions that do believe a spirit can live through someone else, or even be reincarnated. In the back of the book, it explains several religions that may believe that. More importantly, this book can touch a child in a totally different way. This book can help a child get through the passing of a loved one. This book can also encourage a child to keep traditions and memories alive for the loved ones that may have passed. Everyone copes differently, and this could be the book that helps a child in a new way. Pearl came home one day from only to find out that her grandfather has passed away. She didn't attend her grandfather's funeral either. She was so forgetful that day in class. She couldn't remember anything in class because of her grandfather. She couldn't fathom who would do all the things with her that her grandpa used to do. her father decided that her would. I could sympathize with Pearl. When my grandpa died, it's like my world ended. He had a hand in raising me and I was always so used to having him around. I felt sad, and awful all the time. People should cherish their grandparents and parents as such as possible because when they're gone, all you have left is memories. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
