Clearly written meditations on moments plucked from the seemingly mundane times of life. Poems of life, death, grief, violence, the author’s family and the Holy Family. ( ) For me, many of the poems in this collection read nearly as flash fiction (in some cases, with line breaks--very prose-ish) or short scenes, even creative nonfiction. In most cases, had I been hearing the poems, I'm not sure I would have realized it was written as poetry. In most cases, the poems here were amusing, but as a whole, there wasn't enough here to hold me into the collection or make me feel anything for many of the situations and poems. Simply, I found it all an amusing diversion, but none of the poems here would bring me back for a second read, or draw me to pass them on. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

An anticipated new volume from Marie Howe whose "poetry is luminous, intense, eloquent, rooted in abundant inner life" (Stanley Kunitz). Hurrying through errands, attending a dying mother, helping her own child down the playground slide, the speaker in these poems wonders: what is the difference between the self and the soul? The secular and the sacred? Where is the kingdom of heaven? And how does one live in Ordinary Time- during those periods that are not apparently miraculous?
