The hunting of the last dragon was a very “childish” book for lack of other words. The story is narrated by Jude ( the main character) from a monk scribe about Jude’s adventure to hunt the last dragon (hence the title) that has destroyed his village. In my opinion this book was purely about fear. Fear of all sorts, and of all eliminates. Jude is a coward, to start. He’s too sweet and innocent to be doing the task at hand. At the same time though, the reader never really feels comfortable with him because hes not the one writing the story. The other characters like Jing-wei and lizzy didn't have enough of a role in the book to relate to them either. I thought the book was too simple and boring at times and too complex and confusing at others. Sherryl Jordan could have made this book a home run but it just fell short (all lot to short) to me. Jude left his family to buy himself a new bow. There were rumours of some blight striking villages but he never thought after seeing the exotic Lizzie - a chinese girl traveling as part of a freak show - that he would return to his village burnt out. He's taken in by the circus and forms a friendship with Lizzie, whose real name is Jing-wei, and together they plan the death of the dragon. After escaping they meet with Lan, an old Chinese woman who has the secret of gunpowder. With her help they come up with a plan to defeat the dragon. It has moments of implausability but overall it's an interesting read, the friendship between the two main charcters is interesting and sweet. One I enjoyed. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

The countryside has been devastated by a fire-breathing dragon. Previously, all the dragons had been slain, but evidently this egg was not found and it hatched and has been trolling the English countryside for food.
It is the job of Jude and Jing-Wei to slay the last dragon.
The story is told in the past tense by Jude to a monk in a monastery where he and Jing-Wei fled after slaying the dragon.
This is a very easy to read book and although it is written for young adults, a good reader of 8-9 years of age could read this book and understand it. ( )
