encourage and inspire my lifelong love of reading.

AUNTIE DIANE,
who introduced me to many wonderful classics,
including 'The Chronicles of Narnia'.

AUNTIE JACQUIE
who was also my favorite elementary schoolteacher.
Years later, when I became a teacher myself, she invited me to share 'The Chronicles of Narnia' with her students.
From that experience, this book was born.

[Foreword] How many of us, after finishing a Narnia book (or any Lewis book), drop the volume to our laps and cast our eyes to the distance in wonder: Where did he get a vision of such cosmic sweep?

[Preface] I was seven years old when I was given my first copy of 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.'

In the opening paragraph of 'The Magician's Nephew', we learn that we are about to read an "important" story--important because it shows "how all the comings and goings between our world and the land of Narnia first began.
