Grant Morrison, writer of All-Star Superman, is able to perform something that is very nearly magical with this book that constantly hearkens back to the character's past while simultaneously looking to his future. He takes a character that is trite and overexposed and makes him seem fresh and vibrant again. Brilliant. Morrison is aided by Frank Quitely's fantastic art--cartoonish and expressive one moment, reserved and natural the next. This is a book for anyone who wonders how superheroes could ever be cool. Volume 1 of Morrison's and Quitely's brilliant work ranked among my top ten graphic novels of 2008, and this volume may earn the same distinction this year. Morrison concludes his imaginative, early 21st century updating of the goofy circa 1950s Superman science fiction tales as the dying hero journeys to the Bizarro Universe and discovers other Kryptonians bent on conquest. After seventy years of Man of Steel stories, Morrison and Quitely have created quite possibly the finest Superman tale of all time. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
"Topsy-turvy madness on the backwards Bizarro planet. A bottled city that proves you can never go home again. A living sun hell-bent on destroying humanity. A world without the Man of Steel. Twelve impossible labors and mere moments to save the Earth. You've never seen this before. And you'll never see its like again. The multiple-award-winning All-Star Superman concludes only after taking the timeless icon to all-time heights of excitement and acclaim. An eternal story true to the greatest character from the golden age of comics and crafted by a team of comics creators reminding us that there still are living legends" -- dust jacket flap. This was a truly awesome read. I was so glad to fall into it, and so glad to see each issue focused a little more specifically on a ton of side characters especially. The story was lovely, from the lie, the reveals, and the ending hope, with not ever believing it was over. It was, also, hilarious to see Lois never once believe that Superman was Clark Kent. Ever. https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/262359-amanda?shelf=currently-reading# ( )
