This is a great science book because it provides lots of pictures of different types of animals which draws students in immediately. It talks about the life cycles of mammals, amphibians, etc. in an informative, yet child friendly way including pictures. What I really appreciate about this book is that it includes things like a glossary for bolded words, which is a great way to introduce how to use a glossary for students who do not know how this feature of a book works. Additionally, it provides little boxes of fun facts which also draw students in. In the classroom, I would provide this book in my class library as an option for students to read to themselves. It does not lend itself to a read aloud book, but it does provide the chance for children to read about all types of animals and possibly want to learn more about one specific type. It also shows life cycle diagrams which students might use as an exemplar if they were to eventually create their own diagrams. ( )
