I bought The Snark Puzzle Book because I've long wanted a copy of Lewis Carroll's 'The Hunting of the Snark,' which this book contains, along with Henry Holiday's illustrations. This book also contains 'Jabberwocky' from Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There, with its illustrations by John Tenniel. Between the copyright page and the introduction is an illustration of Lewis Carroll from '...an 1893 issue of The Strand, a popular London Magazine.' (It's where the Sherlock Holmes stories first appeared.) The illustration requires a little work to see it properly.

There are 75 puzzles called 'snark teasers'. Some of the puzzles have to do with the poem or its illustrations. Others are old brain teasers given a snark twist. Number 56 is a maze that Carroll drew and put in his magazine 'Mischmasch' when he was young. The last one requires something in order to view an optical illusion.

If you like brain teasers, you should enjoy the snark teasers. If you just want the poems and their original illustrations, ignore the puzzles. (
