While geared toward admission to the Ivy Leagues or any of the Big Ten schools, this exquisitely laid out comprehensive college preparation plan includes charts to organize paperwork, questions to provoke thoughtful essay answers, and samples from application packages that would benefit any college application. (ALA). Each chapter begins with myths and facts about parts of the application process and ends with Cohen’s personal tips for success. Traditional subjects from applying for financial aid to writing an effective essay are covered; the essay section is particularly notable for it’s multiple examples of poor and excellent examples. The book is rather intensive, but embraces the college application as a holistic aspect of a student’s senior year. Although the focus on the Ivy Leagues is pervasive, a good overall guide for aiming high as students matriculate into higher education. Although it lacks any true insider knowledge and bypasses the International Baccalaureate program, the book is a great addition to any college section of high school or public libraries. ( )
