Sur 240 pages richement illustrées l'auteur dresse un panorama historique complet des grands penseurs occidentaux (quelques pages évoquent quand les même les courants de pensée orientale) sur 2500 ans. Pour chacun des données biographiques et bibliographiques, une contextualisation historique, et les grandes lignes de leur doctrine.
A chacun ensuite d'aller approfondir, selon sa sensibilité ou ses envies, la découverte des différents philosophes ou auteurs ainsi présentés. ( )

A nice summary from Thales (everything is made of water) to Wittgenstein (language allows for absurd philosophies), Derrida and Popper. The Story of Thought is what I read, and I do like that title better. It allows him to include Copernicus, Kepler and Newton, unlike other summaries. A little overdone on the pictures. ( )

Best among it's genre. It's target is general reader who interest in philosophy want to know more than histories and ideas. This book contains a lot of practical fact which is interesting. If I had a child, I would give this book to him. ( )

It's always fun to see what form Karen Hesse's books might take from free prose in Out of the Dust to journal in Stowaway. The book is a fictionalized journal based on a real stowaway on an actual voyage of Captain James Cook. ( )
