This is another recent acquisition and I'm lucky the urge to buy one struck me now that I live in northern Wisconsin; the book only deals with lichens found around lakes Superior, Michigan and a touch of Huron. Sure many species are found farther afield, but many are not and the epicenter of lichen density is Isle Royale in Lake Superior. Who knew? The photography is generally good, but the text includes descriptors as well since lichens can look very different when they get wet. There are helpful notes about similar species and interesting facts such as how a lichen got its name to what kind of dye can be made from it. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

Lichens have the capability to dissolve granite. They are very colorful; oranges, yellows, greens, blacks and whites adorn trees, bedrock and even gravestones. This field guide spotlights 120 species, shown in color photos with natural history text. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
