This book was so cute. I love the grandfather and grandson having fun spending time with each other in the rain.

This is a story about an indian boy who bonds with his grandfather by going outside and playing in the monsoon rains.They make paper boats and watch peacocks dance in the rain. This books shows a glimpse of the everyday life of an indian family. ( )

Sheth crafts a beautiful story about a grandfather-grandson relationship during India’s monsoon season. A young boy wants to play in the rain, but his entire family appears to be too busy. His dadaji (grandfather) comes to the rescue and together they sail paper boats, swing on a banyon tree and get sassed by dadima (grandma) to dry off before they catch cold. The watercolor illustrations are gorgeous and fluid, fitting perfectly with the story. Within the text there are many teachable moments that could lend well to story time, from life in India to a different type of seasonal weather and even the passage of time. That last one is the most poignant, shown in the boy’s interest in whether his grandfather had the same experiences he is having right now, and whether he will do them as a grandfather in the future. At the end of the book the author also includes a few paragraphs explaining her own childhood in India to expand further on what monsoon season in India, which ma y interest older children. It’s a great book to introduce children age 4-7 to a new culture or remind a child of their home country. Highly Recommended. ( )

A young boy wants to go play in the monsoon rain but no one will go with him. Finally, his grandfather comes in and says he will. They play in the rain and later get scolded by the grandmother for bringing in mud into the house.
