I picked this particular one because it was said to have a character based on Daisy Daking and indeed it did.
The whole book has very little plot, but is basically a description of a month-long EFDS summer school, clearly written from first hand experience. Many well-known people from the early folk revival are present under nicknames. eg. Cecil Sharp is 'the Prophet', Daisy Daking is 'Pixie'.
Daisy was in France and Germany for three years, during the first world war and after the armistice teaching morris to men in the rest camps and convalescent homes. Her work was on the things that gave morris dancing mass credibility.
the Abbey Girls book tells quite a bit about this.
It's an interesting read and well written. ( )
