I think this book is really important for children to read because it is about one of our most famous presidents. It reflects back on his life and tells his tales. I would use this for grades 4-7.
This books talks about the life of President Lincoln and also uses some of his own thoughts in the story.

Perusing this book, I could see that this book is written in an interesting way; it is written as if you are reading a newspaper. There are no specific chapters, instead the titles are written as if they are headlines in a newspaper. It is an easy read and easy to follow. The book begins with Lincoln's assassination, then it dives into his childhood, politics, civil war, and back to his death.
The author provides a chronology of Lincoln's life, an index, picture credits, and "O Captain, My Captain." ( )

This biography of President Lincoln looks at the life of the President from birth, through his presidency and his assassination through the lens of journalism, written and published in newspaper format. Including primary source photographs as well as illustrations and advertisements, each page of this “newspaper” brings the reader right into the timeline of President Lincoln. Readers will enjoy the newspaper feel including large sized pages and colored pages as if to suggest we are looking at an old copy. This book provides a comprehensive overview of President Lincoln and with the included index and chronology, readers will be able to quickly find specific entry points. This oversize book will appeal to young readers especially since the photographs and newspaper type print will help guide the reader through his history. ( )

So you think you've heard it all before? The life of the Great Abe Lincoln is highlighted in this newspaper size book.
This book contains many illustrations and copies of actual newspaper articles. Children will learn about the life and legacy and death of Abraham Lincoln. Great design concept of the book. Young and old can appreciate the author and illustrators work.

This over-sized book (11" x 17") was created to resemble an aged leather album of newspaper pages from a fictional periodical, The National News.

The book begins with the assassination and then tracks back in time with "chapters" (denoted by headlines), Boyhood (1809-1829), Youth (1830-1835), Politician (1836-1853), and Candidate (1854-1860), followed by a chapter for each year of the Civil War (1861, 1862, 1863, 1864, and 1865). The biography ends where it began, with the nation's first presidential assassination. A Chronology, Index, Picture Credits, and Walt Whitman's poem, "O Captain! My Captain!" finish out the book. The Bibliography is available only online.

Period photographs, quotes, maps, advertisements ("Dr. Sterling's Ambrosia for the Hair. For Sale by Druggists. Price $1"), sketches, handbills, and even a page of Lincoln's math homework in his own hand(!), ("If 1 gallon of ale cost 8d what cost 36 gallons"), add interest and variety to this story of one of our best-known presidents. Each page is sepia-toned and resembles a brittle and aging newspaper.

Despite having read several biographies of Lincoln (both adult and children's), I was still able to find tidbits of new information in details about the assassins and other items of particular interest to children, such as the antics of the Lincoln boys in the White House. My only complaint is a minor one. Due to the book's format and use of actual period headlines, readers may have the impression that the text actually appeared in newspapers of the time.

This book's size and format should definitely draw interest in this 200th anniversary of President Lincoln's birth. Great for display! (difficult to shelve) ( )
