The courage of the Good Women and Good Men, Albigenians, now known as Cathars, was impressive, even to the Inquisitoral authorities who burned them, hundreds at a time, at the stake.

That any of their books managed to survive, newly discovered in the 1970´s, is amazing.

The key, I think, to this history is in combination with that of the earlier repressions of the Roman period, showing the historical pattern of conquest, repression, and then control of ideology in order to control populations. This continues in a more subtle form even today.

LOS CÁTAROS. HACIA UNA PUREZA ABSOLUTA

La historiografía más reciente ha podido desvelar el misterio que rodeaba a los
cátaros, uno de los movimientos más oscuros de la Edad Media. Practicaban el
cristianismo más austero, respetaban estrictamente una vida apostólica de la
que la Iglesia se había alejado hacía tiempo.

Se convierte el Evangelio y ansiaban en un movimiento disidente, una verdadera «contra iglesia»
exasperar a la Inquisición y que culminó en el drama de Monségur, donde
perecieron entre las llamas más de doscientos cátaros, las primeras víctimas de
