This is the story of NIck Rathburn, of mysterious birth who finds himself rising and falling in luck through the years with, as a pivot for both good and bad luck, Sir John Fielding. Nick has a variety of pretty cliched adventures and finds himself condemned to death.
It's readable but I found my attention wavering more than once. The character and adventures are quite cliched and, having read several stories of this ilk, had no problems guessing what happened next. Many period romances are better written ( )
