This is a fun story that uses rhyme to teach about weight. Vocabulary relating to weight is used and highlighted in another color. I really liked that it used rhyme so the reader could even memorize some of the rhymes to help them remember different aspects of weight and how they relate. I would definitely use this book as a tool to help students understand the vocabulary of weight. ( )

Genre- informational because it talks about how to weigh things and all the different methods
Age- Intermediate
Summary- This book is about how to weight certain items and it gives a lot of example on what you would weight what with. It also talks about the different weight systems.
Critique- I loved the rhyming in this book and i also liked the information that it gave out. I thought that it was interesting how they created the book. I would definitely have this book in my classroom library.

Math is Categorical: On the Scale, A Weighty Tale
by Brian P. Cleary Illustrated by Brian Gable
Review by Katelyn Carter Weight: heaviness of an object. The book talks about both the U.S. English measuring system and the International metric system. I think this book would be good for students in remembering the weights of various things because of the funny illustrations. “The very heaviest of things we talk about in tons. Like trucks and trains of ducks and cranes of freighters filled with buns.” The examples are kid-friendly and the book introduces the use of a scale. What I like most about this book is that everything rhymes so that children may be able to remember English and metric systems better. It’s a different way to teach the concept of measuring and using a scale which I think will stick better in children’s minds than just memorizing.
