Biography & Autobiography. Religion & Spirituality. Nonfiction. "He believed that I was an angel sent from God."â??-Ashley Smith In April 2005, Ashley Smith made headlines around the globe when she miraculously talked her way out of the hands of alleged courthouse killer Brian Nichols after he took her hostage for seven hours in her suburban Atlanta apartment. In this moving, inspirational memoir, the 26-year-old widowed mother of a six-year-old girl shares for the first time the little-known details of her traumatic ordeal, and expands on how her faith and the bestselling book The Purpose-Driven® Life helped her survive and bring the killer's murderous rampage to a peaceful end. Just as she told her 6'1", 210-pound captor that his ultimate "purpose" in life was to end up spending the rest of his life in prison, preaching the teachings of Jesus Christ to his fellow inmates, Smith believes her own purpose is to spread that message of love to the rest of us. An easy read. Quite an interesting story of the hours she spent with her kidnapper. Almost left you with feeling bad for the guy, as you can sorta see how he found himself where he was. But she does a good job of bringing you back to reality and reminding you that he WAS the bad guy.

She spends ALOT of time talking about her faith...understandable given the experience, but just a tad bit boring when repeated so much. ( )

Surprisingly well written, this poor girl was a druggie who was on her way to losing her kid and just barely living. Then this dude shows up and she gives him a moment of pause. Hope she's still doing well ( )

I was prepared not to like this book because the over-saturation of media attention surrounding the events. It was recommended to me by my sister and thought I would just borrow it rather than own it. It turned out to be one of the better true stories I have read. It was very interesting to find out about the "behind the scenes" action going on during her hours of captivity. She had great courage and used the experience to turn her life around. Very inspiring and I would definitely recommend it. ( )
