Residents of the United Kingdom make more than 30 million trips abroad each year. An increasing number visit tropical countries and areas off the usual tourist trails, where the risks to health are likely to be greater. This study draws together information for UK doctors giving health advice to travellers. The book is advisory rather than prescriptive, emphasizing the need to assess the risks for the individual traveller, while recognizing the limitations of the data on which such assessments have to be made. Risk behaviours are also discussed and emphasis is put on measures which travellers themselves can take to protect their health abroad.
