Fiction. Mystery. HTML:

"D.J. Donaldson is superb at spinning medical fact into gripping suspense. With his in-depth knowledge of science and medicine, he is one of very few authors who can write with convincing authority." ??Tess Gerritsen, NY Times best-selling author of the Rizzoli & Isles novels Andy Broussard, the plump and proud New Orleans medical examiner, obviously loves food. Less apparent to the casual observer is his hatred of murderers. Together with his gorgeous sidekick, psychologist Kit Franklyn, the two make a powerful, although improbable, mystery solving duo. When the beautiful Kit goes to meet an anonymous stranger??who's been sending her roses??the man drops dead at her feet before she even could even get his name. Game on. Andy Broussard soon learns that the man carried a lethal pathogen similar to the deadly Ebola virus. Soon, another body turns up with the same bug. Panic is imminent as the threat of pandemic is more real than ever before. The danger is even more acute, because the carrier is mobile, his identity is an absolute shocker, he knows he's a walking weapon and... he's on a quest to find Broussard. And Kit isn't safe either. When she investigates her mystery suitor further, she runs afoul of a cold blooded killer, every bit as deadly as the man searching for Broussard. Louisiana Fever is written in Donaldson's unique style: A hard-hitting, punchy, action-packed prose that's dripping with a folksy, decidedly southern, sense of irony. Add in Donaldson's brilliant first hand knowledge of forensics and the sultry flavor of New Orleans, and the result is first class forensic procedural within an irresistibly delectable myst… (mais)

Kit Franklyn gets mysterious phone call to meet someone who dies at the beginning of their meeting. Finding out who he was eventually leads to her kidnapping and the spread of a nasty killer virus. As her friends fight to find her, others have to fight for their own lives as well.

I have not read any books from this series before and did not feel that they have to be read in order. From the first moment the book grabs you as the deadly virus spreads through town. You biting your nails waiting as they try to determine how the virus spreads and then adding on to the tension there are kidnappings.

I give this three stars even though the story grabs you there is a big no no for me. As the kidnapped escapes it is glazed over by saying it would take to long to explain how one of the characters got free. It is literally describes “It would take to long to explain”. I understand it may be hard to get the story where you want to but that just seems lazy.

Even though I have that one beef with the story I still enjoyed most of it and I would consider reading another from the series. ( )

Louisiana Fever by D.J. Donaldson is a great read. The book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I loved how there are so many aspects to the story that all tied together perfectly. The author always got to the point and did not drag anything out which I really appreciated. What is this book about? Most of the story is told by two people in the book; chief medical examiner Andy Broussard and psychologist Kit Franklyn who works with Broussard in the medical examiners office. One day Kit goes to meet a secret admirer who dies at her feet. Broussard learns not soon enough during the autopsy that this admirer is a carrier of a lethal pathogen similar to the deadly Ebola virus. People are now starting to turn up at the morgue, dead of corpse, with this virus. This book has really good writing about the process that takes place in the morgue and the science was flawless. I loved that the virus actually had a voice in the book by saying what it had to do and the situations it was in. Very cool and original. Broussard where is Kit? She has has not showed up for work. Hmm... Kit has been taken by the bad guys. Her boyfriend Teddy goes looking for her and then vanishes too. Let me add I was so happy that it just spoke very little of their feeling for each other and not a bunch of romance added in. Thank You Donaldson. The description of the bayou was told in such a way you felt as if you where there among it. Now this is where the review gets tricky because I do not want to give anything away. Remember me mentioning bad guys? Well, these guys are cold blooded killers who are trying to make a quick buck smuggling in the the U.S. birds. Are they only bringing in birds? Believe me it all ties together so nicely. Who lives? Who dies? Who in the world was Kits admirer? Not going to tell you but I will say this is a book you should not miss. Louisiana Fever is action packed, white knuckled, cannot stop reading so you will be up all night type of book!
"Thank you D.J. Donaldson for allowing me to review your book" ( )

New Orleans is subject to an outbreak of some sorts and who better to flush out the cause than Dr. Andy Broussard and Kit Franklin, his protégé. Kit gets a message to meet someone at a diner. She does. He drops dead. Not the best of introductions.

Andy, the ME for the city, feels something is not going well but unsure as to what until his lab assistant dies from some sort of hemorraghic fever. Kit is kidnapped, her parents are lying and the main kidnapper is pretty odd all by himself.

This book, written in 1996 is the fifth Donaldson book. It is very entertaining and the office of an ME has been well researched in its writing. Kit is stubborn in wants to be very independent. Andy is the great-uncle she never had and the other players do their jobs perfectly.

All in all, I’m sorry I missed this one when it first came out and plan to go back and read the other four soon. ( )

The prologue starts the book off with a man by the name of Walter Baldwin experiencing some strange symptoms, blurry vision, nosebleed, headache, all with the feeling that he was losing his mind. The story takes off from there with people getting sick, the cause unknown and it is Andy Broussard's job as New Orlean's medical examiner, along with his partner Kit Franklyn to find out what this mysterious 'bug' is and to stop it spreading.
This is the second book in the New Orlean's Forensic Series. I had not read the first so was a bit apprehensive as to whether or not I could catch up on the characters featured. I needn't have worried because as soon as I got a few chapters in, I was hooked. A very fast paced medical mystery that kept me turning the pages. If you love a good medical mystery, or for that matter a good crime novel than you need to pick up this book. I gave the book 5 stars because the writing style is enjoyable and the reader comes away with the thought of 'what if'? This could very well happen in our society today. This author knows his stuff!!! ( )
