With insight and wit, Dr. Leman offers readers a fascinating and often funny look at how birth order affects personality, marriage and relationships, parenting style, career, and children. Whether at home or on the job, birth order powerfully influences the way people interact with others. This is a great book for anyone who wants to learn more about how they react to their world. irst born? Only child? Middle child? Baby of the Family? Find out what it means to you, your relationships and your career.

You are going to notice a lot of the books I read attempt to answer “Why is the world this way?” and “Why am I am the way I am?”

Well, if you are an older child, you have some natural leadership skills, tend to be more traditional, and often are a perfectionist. You are often high level executives – like most of our Presidents.

If you are an only child, you are self-centered to the outside world and usually have friends who are not of your age group. You are critical, usually more confident, and also have problems being a perfectionist.

If you are a middle child, you are feel they don’t get enough respect/love/care. You can be a great mediator and probably a closed book. You are often tough and independent, extremely loyal, and embarrass easily.

If you are a baby, you love attention and know how to get noticed. Charming and manipulative. Lovable and gullible. You are the entertainers of the world … You would be great at selling.

This sounds a little like a fortune cookie. I consider myself a middle child with a lot of older child characteristics because I’m the first male in the family. Strangely, I could not think of any middle children in my life. But if you are reading this message, it’s because I thought of you as a perfect example of one of these birth orders. ( )

To my first born, lovable, perfectionist Holly. Your sense of fair play, creativity, love for God, and sensitivity to others make me proud to be your dad. I love you very much.

With special recognition to:

My first born sister, Sally, with apologies for awakening her on at least one occasion by dangling a juicy night crawler under her nose. You are a very special sister.

And Dr. John E. Leman Jr. (Jack) my second-born older brother and hero, whom I faithfully followed on more than one propitious occasion when he tried to lose me in the woods. Thanks, Jack, for threatening to beat the tar out of the neighborhood bully for me.

And my sweet mom and dad, May and John Leman. You did a great job of raising three pretty good kids and we love you for it!
