A short collection of stories narrated by the titular Mr. Mulliner, who enjoys sitting around his club telling somewhat unlikely tales about his various relatives and their adventures and romantic entanglements. I liked some of these better than others, but even the lesser ones were pleasantly silly, frothy, fun, while the best of them had Wodehouse's delightful trademark wit on full display. Although I still think nothing quite comes close to Jeeves & Wooster. 3.5* for this audiobook edition narrated by Jonathan Cecil Contents 1 "The Truth about George" 2 "A Slice of Life" 3 "Mulliner's Buck-U-Uppo" 4 "The Bishop's Move" 5 "Came the Dawn" 6 "The Story of William" 7 "Portrait of a Disciplinarian" 8 "The Romance of a Bulb-Squeezer" 9 "Honeysuckle Cottage" Mr. Mulliner relates these tales about various family members. In the Angler's Rest, a bucolic English pub, drinking hot scotch and lemon, sits one of Wodehouse's greatest raconteurs. Mr. Mulliner, his vivid imagination lubricated by Miss Postlethwaite the barmaid, has fabulous stories to tell of the extraordinary behavior of his far-flung family. One of them concerns Wilfred, who lights on the formula for Buck-U-Uppo, a tonic given to elephants to enable them to face tigers with the necessary nonchalance. Its explosive effects on a shy young curate and then the higher clergy are gravely revealed. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
