Richard Scarry is best known for his classic illustrations, and this little story written by his wife has the perfect narrative accompaniment. I love the lighthearted approach to a common family friction point: bedtime. Mother and Father Bear take perfectly in their stride Little Bear’s reluctance to go to sleep, and make the last note of the day a playful one. C is old enough to tell that Father Bear is just pretending, which adds to the fun because she’s in on the joke!

I loved this book growing up. The father bear in the story was just like my dad. The book is about daddy bear trying to put baby bear to sleep and "can't" find him. Daddy bear is looking all over and finally finds him on his shoulders. This book would be a great read-aloud before nap time. ( )

A great fantasy. This family of bears would not have a house like people do, or dress in real clothes, making it hard to be anything but fantasy. The theme of the book about the hide and seek game is a stroke of genius and it is very fun to see when the father bear will choose to "see" his son atop his shoulders. This book is well illustrated and wonderfully told! ( )
