( ) It took me a little bit to get into the style of the writing but the story was great. I loved the character of Shawn and I loved his take on life. Cooper was a great broken soul who found himself with Shawn's help. I loved how the author incorporated the hearing impairment and sign language into the story. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series. This book left me feeling a bit funny. I thought the writing was uncomfortable to read, it didn't have a nice flow to it, yet the story pulled me in. I didn't connect with either of the MC's, though, and would have liked to learn more about Shawn. Cooper then, he was both confused and confusing. A lot of his choices in this book I'd disagree with, but I did love the carrying theme throughout the book: re-building yourself and your life after something so tragic happens to you. I definitely don't need to add to my TBR, but I probably will pick up [b:Physical Therapy|6465468|Physical Therapy (St. Nacho's #2)|Z.A. I expected unremitting sex scenes with shallow or no emotion. I was delighted to be proved wrong. The conflict is strong, the characters fully formed and flawed, and the ending satisfying. A very well written love story - I'll pick up more of hers! Cooper’s a violinist with a painful past. He speaks to the world through his music. He meets Shawn a determined flirt who wants him and wants in. For the first time in a long time, Cooper wants to communicate, but Shawn’s deaf. From Loose Id. I’ll admit, there was a little eye rolling along with secret glee when I read the synopsis for this book. Oh the angst and drama, be still my heart, I am a bit of a sucker for this in a book! The characters were likable and the premise was an interesting one. After finding it hard to get into Z.A. Maxfield’s The Long Way Home, this book was a refreshing change. It felt more in control, confident and there was a purposefulness in the writing, if that makes any sense! I really enjoyed Cooper, but just adored Shawn. I was a little curious about him though, there was very little detail about him other than his circle of friends. As he is only 22 I often found myself wondering about his family. Not that it really mattered, his family or lack of it was not integral to the story, just a thing I have obviously! I had a few moments at the end when the drama seemed about to get a little over the top but all the threads were pulled back in and it had a satisfying conclusion. St Nacho’s is sweet and sexy read with bikers, cooking, violins, sign and some lovely angst. http://sharrow.wordpress.com/
Pertence a SérieSt. Nacho's (Book 1)
Cooper has spent the last three years running from a painful past. He's currently moving from town to town, working in restaurant kitchens, and playing his violin for tips. As soon as he starts to feel comfortable anywhere-with anyone-he moves on. He's aware that music may be the only human language he still knows. Ironically, the one man he's wanted to communicate with in all that time is deaf. Shawn is part of a deaf theater group at the nearby college. Shawn wants Cooper as soon as they meet and he begins a determined flirtation. Cooper is comfortable with down and dirty sex, just not people. As far as Shawn is concerned, dirty sex is win-win, but he wants Cooper to let him into the rest of his life as well. Cooper needs time to heal and put his past away for good. Shawn needs to help Cooper forgive himself and accept that he can be loved. Both men find out that when it comes to the kind of healing love can bring, the sleepy beachside town of Santo Ignacio, "St. Nacho's" as the locals call it, may just be the very best place to start.
