Way back in my high school days I was OBSESSED with this series. Seriously, I was attached to this series and got super upset when I couldn't get the final volumes at my local bookstores. It broke my heart! For years, this manga series collected dust on a bookshelf in my house.

Welcome to quarantine cleaning and reading! Where I pull out old books to reread and review, and then lend them to all of my friends. It's great. Honestly, I recommend it.

This series does not hold up for me. While I used to think this was romantic and like a chase, it seems kind of creepy now. It's a little rape-y in nature, yet I still want to read it and see where it goes.

If you're looking for an immature fantasy romance, this is it. It's not to be taken seriously, as it's a manga about a girl who can bring prosperity to a clan if they marry and sleep with her. Honestly, it's a goofy plot but it does make for an interesting read.

As an adult woman, I'm a little creeped out though. The boys get to gawk at pictures of Misao in her underwear and more men want to rape her. It's creepy AF. Like, we almost get a full rape scene. Wasn't this for a middle grade to YA audience? My local bookstore recommended it to middle grade readers. Yeah, you read that right. Middle grade. I was told at the time I might be too old of an audience for it at 15.

Overall, this book is fine if you don't mind rape-y and sexual jokes. I personally didn't like them, but back in my youth they went over my head and I thought it was funny. Being older, it's different. Know what you like to read is basically my warning. This book knows it's audience.

First time around back in high school: 5 out of 5.
Adult me: 2 out of 5. ( )

I have continued reading this fun shojo romance series with a supernatural twist and it continues to remain lighthearted and fun.

Misao continues to have personal doubts whether she hates or loves her mysterious and very hunky neighbor Kyou. She knows he is a Tengu, head of a crow demon family who wants to marry her. But does he really love her, or all of the things he did to keep her safe so far is all part of a maquiavellian plan to trick her into marriage.

Things get more fun when after Misao is attacked by a guy in the street who was posessed by a lesser demon, she discovers that Kyou invited into his home the remaining 8 retainer/guardian warriors of his family. (Sweet little Taro who was presented in the first volume is one of them). With the exception for Taro's two fraternal twin brothers, all of them are hunky young men!

Misao can't choose between feeling worried, flattered, or horny by so much hotness. Kyou ordered his men to always keep a close eye on her because it seems like she always gets into trouble for no reason whatsoever. Yeah, Kyou is a bit paranoid.

Misao becomes attached to the retainers very quickly, and doesn't mind it when one of them shows up in front of her school to accompany her home. The only problem is that the 8th and final retainer hasn't appeared yet, and Kyou doesn't seem all that happy when Sohou makes his grand appearance. He knows that Sohou is up to trouble, and Misao's life could be at risk.

The author continues to draw beautifully, and with a simple crisp style, my only two complaints is that dialogue bubbles continue to be skipped around, making some of the reading choppy, and the fact that while Misao continues to be a weakling damsel-in-distress, Kyou almost seems like a posessive control freak. Yeah, this manga might anger some feminists.

But I think that if you try to keep your mind open and simply enjoy the scenes where Kyou and Misao kiss each other, those little squirms will not be an impediment towards enjoying this fun story. ( )

Now that Misao know she is hunted by demons and that her blood is wanted by them all she had to admit that Kyo and his followers are her only chance of survival in a world that is thrusting for her blood. But this time his older brother Sho arrives and with him more questions and fears strike Misao.

She knows she is very attracted to Kyo, but she isn't sure if he feels the same or that what her blood promises his Tengu family is his only interest? ( )
