Imagine you're the world's biggest Beatles fan and you've just snuck into John Lennon's hotel room. But instead of being thrown out, inexplicably you're invited to spend the day with your idol. That's exactly what happened to fourteen-year-old Jerry Levitan in 1969. After hearing John was in Toronto for a "bed in," Jerry tracked him down at the King Edward Hotel and convinced the world's biggest rock star to sit down for an exclusive forty-minute interview. John talked candidly about war, politics, the scandalous Two Virgins album, and the supposed subliminal messages in his music. Now, forty years later, it's all here: Jerry's once-in-a-lifetime adventure, illustrated by acclaimed artist James Braithwaite and featuring never before seen photographs of John and Yoko. Also included in the book is Jerry's memorabilia from that day--notes from John and Yoko, the secret code to contact him, drawings, John's doodles, and much more. Complete with an audio and video DVD of the interview that inspired the Academy Award-nominated film of the same name, I Met the Walrus is an immortalized one-on-one moment with John--a must-have for Lennon fans around the world, as well as anyone who has ever dreamed of meeting a hero.… (mais)

This is a great telling of a series of events that profoundly affected one man's thinking and direction in life and what he did with the fruits of that meeting.

I greatly enjoyed the story and while the hero worship does wear a bit thin at times, all I have to do is imagine myself in the same situation to understand.

The books comes with a DVD copy of the Oscar-nominated short film that Levitan and two collaborators made from the Super-8 footage that he shot of John and Yoko. Wonderful stuff. ( )

In Toronto, May 1969, a 14yr old boy snuck into John Lennon and Yoko Ono's hotel room pretending to be a reporter and ended up with an incredible story of meeting his childhood hero.

Jerry Levitan is possibly Lennon's biggest fan the world has ever known. He was totally devoted to all things Lennon and The Beatles and followed his heart and used some daring when he heard a rumour that his hero was in town. This book is that journey and beyond and I found myself learning more about these Liverpudlians then I ever knew before.

The book is broken into four parts. 1. 'Meet The Beatles' where Levitan gives us his story growing up a Beatles fan. Part 2. 'I Met the Walrus' in where we learn how he used the reporter cover to meet John Lennon and then to organise an exclusive interview with the transcript included.

Part 3. 'In My Life' we learn of after the interview, the perks of being a Lennon favourite and the story of Lennon until his death in 1980. Part 4. 'Epilogue' finally deals with Levitan's life after this point, his highs and very low lows, and his journey to turn his original interview into a film which was eventually nominated for an academy award.

This really is a fascinating read, Levitan was the pluckiest (and luckiest) kid and he writes his story very well. You will learn things about Lennon that you never knew and the book is full of gorgeous artwork from the movie and photos. There is also a DVD of the interview.

A gorgeously produced book that I will treasure. ( )
