It's a great story - great situation - spoiled by really poor writing. The dialog is stilted at best - except between Vance and Nicky; the viewpoint leaps wildly between characters (a couple times I had to stop and reread a paragraph to figure out who was thinking/doing those things). The characters are mostly good, except for the romance bits - he's not going to take off his ring until she not only _says_ she's done with her ex-fiance but _shows_ him; she's agonizing about him being tied to his late wife and never mentions her. Then they admit their feelings and again the dialog goes incredibly stupid.... There's a mystery set up in the first chapter that doesn't get resolved at all; a major point late in the book is introduced only a few pages before it becomes major. And on and on. The situation and the characters are good enough that it's _almost_ worth the mess - but it can't be considered a good book. I'll try reading the next one, though, and see if she's gotten any better (besides, I want to see what's up with Chase). ( ) sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
The last of his line, Vance Rossiter lives by a powerful code of honor. That's why the Yosemite chief ranger is troubled by a tragedy that happened on his watch--one he should have prevented. The arrival of Rachel Darrow only adds salt to the wound. Until Vance meets her orphaned nephew... Six-year-old Nicky thinks Vance is some kind of hero. Rachel sees only the man who was in charge when her brother perished on stormy El Capitan. But the rugged Ranger seems dedicated to helping her nephew heal. And making things right. Spending time with Rachel and her little boy is making Vance realize what he's been missing. Now the widowed ex-marine has a new mission: to help them become a real family....
