This is an older one by John Grisham but it did not disappoint. It tells the story of Ray Atlee, a law professor at the University of Virginia. His father, Reuben, is a Chancery Judge in Mississippi and his brother, Forrest, has been in and out of various rehabs. Ray and Forrest both receive a "summons" from the Judge to appear at the Judge's home at a certain time on a certain day. Ray arrives first and finds his rather has died but he also finds $3 million hidden in boxes in a closet. He does not know where the money came from nor does he know why his father has the money. Forrest shows up and they start the funeral plans and the probate process for the estate. During this and afterward, Ray is figuring out what to do with the money. His apartment gets broken into and his dad's house is vandalized. Who else knows about the money? ( )

Grisham consistently delivers a great read. This story about fractured relationships between 2 adult sons and their recently deceased southern father, a retired judge, is set up and delivered very well. ( )

it's been awhile since I've visited the Grisham world and thought it was time. Here, two brothers receive a letter from their failing father to return home to discuss his estate. When the good brother arrives, he finds his father dead, and a huge stash of cash in a cupboard. The rest of the book tracks his attempts to find the source of the cash, and figure out what to do with it. As always, Grisham is inventive with the legal details, particularly with the efforts to hide and figure out the cash. It's not Grisham's best but it was readable, even if I figured out who was behind all the twists.

4 bones!!!! ( )

Judge Atlee was a scrupulously honest jurist, so it stuns Ray when he finds $3 million dollars in cash after the judge’s death. There’s no good answer for its appearance. So who else knows and is threatening him? ( )

It came by mail, regular postage, the old-fashioned way since the Judge was almost eighty and distrusted modern devices.
