LETTERS FOR SALE FROM SWEET VALLEY HIGH (SVH)

Jessica wants some money to paint her room in purple her favourite colour, buy CDs and gloves for Sam so she decides to write letters for the people who want to send letters to their relatives and do not want to write the letters for themselves so she could earn some money.
Elizabeth sees the idea as a good idea and tells Jess that her too wants some money to buy a jacket for Todd with a surprise and tells that she will write the letter and Jess can post the letters.

On the other hand, Shelley, Liz’s friend and her boyfriend Jim are having a problem towards each other, Shel wants him to spend more time with her, and Jim is doing a project for the Oracle of the yearbook also Elizabeth works there and she understands the problem between him and Shel.

Elizabeth asks Shel what is bothering her but Shelley seems to be depressed and does not want to tell Liz anything.
“so what is the thing that is bothering you Shelley, you reminded me Evil Elizabeth #9 from Super Summer Fun Book SVT when Todd asks Jess what is the thing that is bothering Liz.”
Later that day in the practice time Todd asks Shel what happened and she tells him that Jim is neglecting her and Todd tells her that he is just busy with this project but when he finishes it, he will be with her all the time.
Elizabeth has the best guy ever, it is easy to tell him everything. Shelley thinks.
Moreover, she already falls in love with him but the problem is how the hell is she going to kidnap him from her friend.

The Letter-Writing Service is started it is only Tuesday and Jess is so thrilled there is already four requests for letters in their new post office box after putting flyers in every wall in Sweet Valley Town and avoiding the people to know that they are behind the Letter-Writing Service.
The business is going well but when one evening Jessica opens a letter that came from Shel and says:
Dear Letters R Us, I am a junior at Sweet Valley High, and lately I have developed an enormous crush on the boyfriend of one of my friends. I do not know how it happened. It is like, one day I woke up and realized how much I like him. He is really gorgeous………………
Who could this guy be? Says Jessica wondering.
He is tall, with brown hair and eyes, and he is the star forward of the boys basketball team. He is incredibly nice too. Whenever we talk, I know that he is really listening. He makes me feel so alive!
Oh no! Jessica gasps, tossing the letter on the bed. She is talking about Todd! Then she picks up the letter again and starts reading again.
I cannot bring myself to say anything to him about my feelings, so I thought it might be a better idea to send him a letter. I feel terrible about this crush, and I do not want to hurt my friend, but I cannot deny my feelings, can I?
Why not? Jessica mutters, Liz does not deserve this.
He is the most wonderful boy on earth, and I would like to let him know how I feel and find out whether he feels anything for me, Shel continues
Can you help me?
No! No! No! Jessica's mind screamed, what was she going to do, Shelley Novak had fallen in love with Todd Wilkins! Elizabeth would simply die! She could not tell Liz.
But later she tried to have a good idea in her mind.
1) She could write a letter back to Shelley herself.
No, she would not write the letter maybe if she did nothing, Shel would think that her request had gotten lost in the mail and then suddenly Shel might write the letter to Todd herself.
2) She could send the money back to Shelley and tell her to forget the whole thing that Todd was not for her.
But Shel will know who was behind the Letter-Writing Service.
Jess tries to think more about the situation she had sorted a lot of problems before like when she proved to Bruce Patman how wrong he was when he said that girls were not brave enough to join Club X.
But she needed a lot of time and the problem is that Elizabeth will not give her time to think and she had to sort the problem before Liz and Todd break up.
A second later, she hears a knock on the door it is her sister.
Jess are you in there? Did you bring home the requests?
Come on in, Jessica says quickly stuffing Shelley’s letter under a pile of clothes on the floor.
I do not know how you find anything in here, Elizabeth comments as she comes in.
It only needs memorizing my messes. If you want a certain book, just ask me. If you are looking for a purse or a particular pair of shoes, I can point you right to them. By the way, do you think of red? I am considering a total redo.
Before you start stripping paint, Elizabeth says with a laugh, could you point out the pile of requests we got today? Did you say there were ten?
Uh........ Jessica thought quickly why did she tell her sister that there were ten.
She knew why because she was happy but now a problem started and there was no way to show her sister the tenth letter.
Um ten, yes but um I had to go back to school to my locker to pick up something and I must have left one there. I only have nine with me. Jessica says trying to show her sister that there was no problem.
Liz picks up all the letters and says well do not forget to bring it tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s Saturday. Says Jessica
I know but I thought you told me before that the cheerleaders have a makeup practice scheduled for Saturday.
Oh, right. Jessica concedes. I forgot. I guess I will bring the letter home tomorrow, then.
Before tomorrow, I will have plan. She thought.
But who will help her maybe her best friends Lila or Amy, her mother or Steven.
Yes, she got the idea it has to be Steven and she calls Steven.
She tells him everything and they decide that she must re-write the letter so and when Todd sees the letter he will just be flattered and that will be the end of this whole mess.
After all, Liz and Todd’s relationship is so strong what will one letter can do about it? Adds Jessica.
“I don’t want to say this but Jessica you are so stupid because why don’t you just tell her she would have slapped idiot Shelley on the face.”
Elizabeth writes the letter to Todd oh poor Liz she does not know that her friend is on a bad crush with her boyfriend.
“If I was you Liz I wouldn’t write with too romantic words because you know some boys don’t enjoy those romantic words never mind I know what Francine wants to make it. She wants to make the story more exciting.
Don’t make it so romantic Liz the boy and girl are friends they know each other, remember. Says Jessica giving her sister a warning.
But this girl wants the boy to feel her feelings doesn’t she? Asks Elizabeth.
Yes, but don’t be sooooooooooo romantic okay? Says Jessica if you only knew she thought.
Ok says Elizabeth said.
Jessica is more than trying to persuade her sister to make the romantic letter less but sticky Elizabeth doesn’t listen, she is helping Shelley Novak take her own boyfriend from her what a mess Elizabeth.

Everything that Shelley thinks about is only Todd how he will feel when he sees the letter what he will say to her. And as she hasn’t seen Elizabeth and Todd, together she thought there must be a problem or maybe it was the right time to change the world but what about Jim even if he ignored her these days.
What was she going to do with him?
As she is thinking she sees Elizabeth coming to her they talk a lot and havea deep conversation about Todd and how Shelley scored a goal the night before so Elizabeth wants to take some information from Todd and Shelley about what happened last night.
That is what I want thought Shelley
At the first time when Jessica enters the cafeteria, she sees Elizabeth and Shelley their headed bent together.
Oh no! She whispers to herself. I never should have let Elizabeth write those stupid letters maybe this morning she recognised the address.
What! Lila asks
Oh, nothing Jessica mutters.

Money!money!money! Jessica announcs
I thought you wanted to make money. Elizabeth teases, waving the latest five-dollar pills in Jessica’s face
I know I sure did. I do want to make money but not at the expense of my social life. I haven’t seen Sam in over a week.

Elizabeth cancels a date that she had with Todd tonight because of writing that stupid letters.
Jessica tries to persuade her to go with Todd but Liz wouldn’t listen so she stops persuading something to her sticky twin sister.

The next day in the cafeteria Todd comes to Elizabeth he tries to see Liz but she just writes something for the oracle and when he asks her something she just tells him something liar so he leaves her alone and leaves the cafeteria hurrying.
Jessica sees the whole mess and comes to Liz.
What happened Liz I saw Todd hurrying past me ?
I have figured something, haven’t you heard of? Boyfriends need to see your face once In a while to know you care. Otherwise they off in a huff.
Don’t be silly Jess Todd’s just been in a bit of a bad mood and I really don’t blame him not wanting to hang around while I work. Everything is fine. Jess, quit worrying.
But something is wrong on Wednesday evening when Jessica goes to the post office she is shocked to see a letter with Todd’s address on it saying that he needs a romantic letter for the gilr and another letter for his gilrfriend to cool her off for bit.

That afternoon, Elizabeth meets Todd outside his class she hadn’t seen him all day because she would been so busy.
Want to go out with me to the Dairi Burger? She asks
you are kidding he says .
As they talk, a lot and he tells her that he couldn’t go with, that he wants to watch the girl’s basketball and that Shel wants him to check her rebounding she wants to bring her average up.
Elizabeth tells him that is ok with her and she will go with him.
When they reach the basketball court, Todd doesn't seem to be interested at her at all but that is ok with her.
We don’t have to be romance all the time she thought.

Todd raises one question to her and says
So tell me what do I owe this honour today? Did you run out of better things to do?
No . Elizabeth says I just managed to catch up for a while and thought I deserve a break.
he accuses her and she gets angry, she tries to make him undrstand but he doesn't and shhe deosn't want to ruin his surprise.
Jessica triesto make many plans to avoid the break up of Liz and Todd. Even one morning she tries to be like Liz fixes her hair in ponytail and dresses like Elizabeth so she can talk to the postman of Todd’s family but the postman refuses to give her the letter and tells her that it is against the law.
Three days later Elizabeth arrives home without Jessica.
Her twin had to stay after school for cheerleading practice. Lila was going to wait for her and bring her home.
Elizabeth turnes the key in the lock and enteres the empty house.
I am tired of being alone, she says her voice echoing. Todd hadn’t spoken to her since Thursday
Jessica was happily going out with Sam, her friend Enid with her boyfriend Hugh and her parents with each other.
She felt as if she were the only person in all Sweet Valley without a partner.
She decides to call Steven and to ask for advice but before she could do that, she sees a letter on the mail she reaches down to retrieve it from the floor and immediately notices a letter from Todd.
What in the world? She asks as she rippes open the envelope.
It says:

Dear Liz
Lately I have noticed that I am pretty low on your priority list. You are always too busy to see me and you are not honest enough to tell me why. Well, whatever you are doing and whoever you are doing it with have come first for the last time. I think we should cool it for a while, date other people. If you decide you would like to speak to me about this, give me a call ------ if you can spare the time!

Elizabeth becomes angry Todd doesn't even bother to copy the letter but he absolutely wrote her name in the spot after dear as he were sending a form letter.
She absolutely is hurt and angry she couldn’t believe herself and the letter.
After that, Jess comes in the room and sees all the mess.
Jessica! Elizabeth yells. Get here this instant! You have some major explaining to do!
What is it? Jessica asksas she run to the kitchen. I saw your backpack and you are ………. She gasps you are eating the whole cake?
I wanted to tell you Liz I promised Sam but the time never seems to be right I was hoping Todd would not send the letter.
Wouldn’t send the letter? Hah! Liz says you knew about this all along and chose not to tell me! You lied to me! You re-wrote the letters so I wouldn’t know what was going on! Were you trying to break me and Todd up?
How can you say that? Jessica cries. You and Todd are the perfect couple! I thought he would be flattered by the first letter you wrote for that girl. I didn’t think any harm would come from some silly crush.
Silly crush! Elizabeth shrieks. You let me help……...this girl steal my boyfriend.
As they talk a lot and a lot, Elizabeth shouts at Jessica and Jessica tells her to calm.
Elizabeth asks Jessica to tell her who the girl and Jessica tells her
It is Shelley, Shelly Novak. Jessica says quietly.
Thank you. Elizabeth says. Then she gets up from her seat, spun around, and storms out of the kitchen.
Elizabeth comes to Todd’s house and rings the doorbell.
You were not expecting me to see you, were you?
What is the meaning of this? Is this all I am worth to you? A dear Jane form letter?
Well? Elizabeth demands. Why do you want to go out with someone else?
I did not want to, but you gave me no choice, Todd replies defensively.
No choice? Elizabeth cries. I am a little busy so you cut me off without a clue. I thought we had something special.
We do. Todd says. We did
Elizabeth foldsher arms. Did?
Look Elizabeth he says you are the one who ignored me. What is a guy supposed to do when his girlfriend does not have time for him anymore?
Trade her in a new model, I guess. Elizabeth shots back. How dare you suggest that I went to the concert with someone else, when all along you were dating someone behind my back?
I have not started dating her yet! Todd says
In addition, what am I supposed to do now? Come crawling back to you and beg you not to dump me? Forget it. I have better things to do.
Obviously, Todd says you would not tell me everything that you and Jessica are working on.
I would not tell you now if the world were going to fall apart in thirty seconds, Elizabeth tells him.
You do not have, never have had, and never will have the right to demand to know what I do with my time. We are not joined at the hip, you know!

They have many arguments and lastly Elizabeth leaves him trying not to show him that she was crying.
She feels lonely and sad.

Shelley and Todd are having a date tonight and Shel is so shy to be sitting in a date with Todd Wilkins.
When they see each other they talk and joke, two of them tell each other how much they love their partners and decide to put the romantic story away and to find who is behind the Letter-Writing Service.
The next morning it is Saturday and Jessica tries to take some requests from the post office she doesn't know that Todd is sneaking up behind her.
Aha! Todd says accusingly. Why didn’t I suspect it from the first time?
Suspect from what, Todd? Jessica cries as she triesto hide the key behind her back.
You know what, Todd says. You were behind the Letter-Writing Service business all along.
I want the entire truth now.
Ok I am caught Jessica admits. Actually, I am glad it is finally over that you finally know the truth. However, you are wrong at one thing, she says,
I am not the one actually writing the letters. Elizabeth writes them. I just pick them up, deliver and sort. Moreover, do our books.
Liz writes the letters? Todd asks. I do not believe it! I do not understand it! Why would she write a romantic letter to Shelley and a rejection letter to herself?
Unless……….Todd is silent for a moment, his expression sad. Unless she really did want me to fall for Shelley because she wanted to break up in the first place.
Jessica tells him everything and informs him that Liz is hurt and is difficult to apologize her.

Shelley goes to Jim’s house they made out but on the other hand, the problem is that Elizabeth refuses to take Todd’s phone calls that afternoon and evening and refuses to see him when he shows up three times on Sunday. In addition, even the other day in school she refuses to listen to him and run away from him.

There came another letters and Jessica tells Elizabeth that she can rest today but there is one problem with one letter and asks her sister if she would help her and Liz says ok.
“I know like these times Jess is putting on a plan, c’mon Jess let us see how you make the relationship of Todd and Liz work.”
Jessica starts reading the letter and this is what it said:
Dear R Us.
I really love my girlfriend, but I have made a big mess out of our relationship.
I assumed she was not interested in me anymore, but I found out that she was working the whole time to buy a nice present , I went out with another girl in between, but realized immediately that we can only be friends. I know I was wrong not to talk to my girlfriend about my feelings. Now she will not give me a chance to explain and I do not know what to do.
Elizabeth cries but Jessica keeps reading it:
Can you please write an apology letter for my gilrfriend? I love her so much that I can’t stand the thought of being without her.
It signs Todd Wilkins.

I would better write this for myself Elizabeth says I will let you know when I finish but what am I going to say to him? She asks.
Just tell him how you feel. Jessica suggests.
This is what Elizabeth wrote:

Dear Todd,
Your letter meant more to me than I can say.
It is obvious that even a person like me, who lives with words everyday, sometimes has trouble saying what she means.
It was wrong of me not to tell you the truth about what I was doing.
So what if it would have spoiled your surprise? Our relationship should have meant more to me than my pride. I guess I just did not realize how much I was shutting you out. I am sorry. Please forgive me. I cannot stand the thought of being without you, either.
Love, Liz.

She seals the envelope and writes Todd’s name on the front. Lovingly, she wrapps his new jacket in tissue paper and ties it with a satin ribbon. She picksup the letter and the package and goes into the bathroom she shares with Jessica Then she raises her head for a quick glance in the mirror.
When she arrives in front of Todd’s house, she suddenly feels nervous.
Just as Elizabeth is lying the package on the steps on the Wilkinses home and pushing the letter through the mail slot, Todd opens the door.
I, uh, just wanted to deliver this Elizabeth says quickly and starts to back down the steps.
Todd quickly looks down at the envelope and the package on his feet.
Please do not go, Liz, he asks gently.
Todd opens the letter and she closes her eyes. She knew the letter by heart and she mentally followes along with him.
When she opens her eyes, Todd is standing only inches away from her. He takes her in his arms, and she laid her head on his chest.
“ROMANTIC,ROMANTIC, ROMANTIC, ELIZABETH AND TODD ROMATIC AGAIN.”
I love you Elizabeth, Todd whispers to her hair, I am so sorry for doubting you.
Elizabeth looks up at him, happiness shining in her eyes. I love you , too, she says. I am sorry that you thought I had stopped.
Then they kiss gently on the lips.

Later she asks him many questions and how he understood about the Letter-Writing Service then she showes him the jacket and he says that he must buy one for her too other wise, he is not going to wear it and he orders one for her too.

When Elizabeth and Todd walk into the Oracle the next day wearing their matching blue-gold warm up jackets, they cause quite a stir.
Everyone is so amazed about their look the same and how attractive they are towards each other.
The end
