I read this book years ago with my oldest daughter, it's one of the series that got me back into reading and down my reading rabbit hole. I love the supernatural aspect, the whole family secrets build to Chloe, Simon, Derek and Tori's adventures getting to the bottom of the Edison group.
I have this whole series and continued with the Darkness Rising.

I love the building friendship they develop with their growing to know each of their powers. A lot of young adult books make the teenagers seem too grown for their age to try to fit it into a criteria I suppose of making sense in an adult world but Kelley Armstrong doesn't do that. They are teenagers taking on this huge world and still remain true to their age group.

I wouldn't recommend the audiobook to this however, I tried to listen to it because I was in the mood to get into the story again but the narrator they chose sounded like a 5 year old and made for the story to be unbearable. If you are into supernatural, magic, and a world of mystery and a secret society that unfolds through every book, this is the series for you.

It's a series I have read quite a few times and continue to do so. Love it :) ( )

Poor Chloe—with her escape plan failed, the news that her beloved Aunt is in on it the whole time and her love interest far, far away, things are just plain sucky. I don’t blame her for wanting to have a pity party. She learns, however, from her previous mistakes at least, and plots a bit more privately.

The book picks up pretty much right where THE SUMMONING left off, and from there it picks up momentum for a while, slows down a little for more character development and then picks right back up again. Surprisingly, Tori, who is a supreme prima donna and witch, has some of the more (or less) shocking developments. Somehow, while still being a prima donna she makes herself useful to the others (Simon, Chloe, Derek) and isn’t quite as annoying. Or maybe it's because we see less of her for a stretch of the book.

The friendship between Derek and Chloe grows deeper in this book, as does the tension it causes between Derek and Simon. I honestly cannot say if there is tension because the boys are jealous of the time Chloe spends with one or the other, or if Derek is really worried that Chloe will hurt Simon and is too inept at handling the situation. Personality quirks of Derek’s are explained in better detail—for instance, he sees Simon and their dad as his ’pack’ and doesn’t see much use for anyone else most of the time. As a werewolf his ’pack’ would mean everything to him, so it's natural for him to be wary of what Simon’s growing feelings for Chloe could possibly mean.

We learn more about the backstory of the characters as well. Even though this is a first person narrative from Chloe’s perspective, we learn about Derek’s back story (in an offhanded way), and Tori’s and Simon’s as well.

Most unsettling, however, is the repercussions of Chloe’s power and the Edison Group’s tampering with it. Without details, let’s just say that Chloe learns that being a necromancer is dangerous while awake or asleep.

Some of the developments are predictable and others are perhaps too stereotypical to really be surprised by, but overall, this will keep fans entertained and guessing. ( )

This one took a little longer to get into than the first, but once I did, it was amazing.

The five are on the run, after a lot of betrayals and twits, they end up with a smaller group. They have to find a safe place away from the Edison group. This one had a lot more fighting. That was good.

Simon is good for Chloe. Derek is not. He is just mean and really annoying. I like Tori more than him which says a lot.

Once you get to the good part this has nonstop action, you can not put it down.

This is great for fans of supernatural anything, demons, zombies, spells, werewolves. It was really good.

My favorite part of it is when Chloe does or says something stupid, Simon is nice, Tori is sarcastic, and Derek just looks at her like being near her is a challenge, that is the best part of this whole thing. The way the characters talk is fun to read. ( )

The first book really pulled me into this series but this one? I couldn't even finish. I felt like there was a lot of relationship wavering: Friends? Foes? Love interest? between all of the leads and it just got old because I need to feel like I at least know where something is going. And I felt like the "running" done in the story got old. I don't know. I just stopped reading it after I realized I was forcing myself. Maybe another day. ( )

Another slam dunk for Kelley Armstrong in this mind-tingling action-packed novel. The book begins with Chloe in the locked Edison Group facility after revealing to her friend that she is actually dead. She soon learns that the people of the Edison Group are not as nice as they seem. I really enjoyed this novel because I already knew these characters and I was interested to see how they came into their powers when danger arose. I have to say I need to stop guessing when it comes to her novels because most of the time I am usually wrong and people are not always what they seem.

It was nice to read about the realtionship between Derek and Chloe. In The Summoning their relationship was very strained because of the secret of what Derek was, but the fact that these two are so different makes them perfect companions. We also delved deeper into Derek's secret agenda involving the Pack which happens to live closeby. I also enjoyed the character of Liz, we missed out on a lot of her in the first novel, but this novel really showed how strong of a character she was, although Chloe was the only one to truly recognize it.

After reading other reviews about this novel, some say it was very slow and just a "middle" book, just setting us up for the end novel. I disagree. This novel explored more of the "coming of age" and power of these teenagers. Other novels explore characters already knowing their powers, but this particular series shows the troubles of learning to harness and control something that they never chose.
