Ainda não há conversas na Discussão sobre este livro. I did not finish this book. I finished page 167, and got distracted by reading a better book. From there, I went on to read another book, and now I'm on yet another, and I realized I should just not waste my time returning to this book. It wasn't utterly awful, but there are too many amazing books in the world to waste any time on something of quality this pedestrian. That's not to say the story is pedestrian. It's corny, fun at times, and a bit tiresome at others. It's far from gripping, but it's fully readable, I suppose, at least as far as I got before quitting. It is, at least, better than the movie. The movie's kinda terrible. Watching the movie first does not make it seem better in comparison to the book; this has been confirmed. Oh no, I don't know enough about Abraham Lincoln to separate fact from fiction. -------------------------- The story is so choppy. I guess it comes from the style of it being put together from his journals. But it has me feeling like I'm missing build up and resolution of situations. I can't find a plot to follow. I'm considering abandoning it. Resolution would be how does he dispose of the bodies, etc. -------------------------- Yeah I'm done. DNF Great fun! This isn't high lit and no one should pretend that it's meant to be. It's an American Gothic history fiction with a good, hard tweak of fantasy that keeps the reader smiling until the end. Both Abe Lincoln and major events from the mid 19th century are turned on their heels with the introduction of vampires into lead-up of the war between the states. Written in the discovered diary and narrative style, it has some problems with flow, but it's a forgivable flaw. It's still easy to follow and contains footnotes on the more obscure references. The characters are three-dimensional and they grow throughout the book. This is simply fun to read and will make an enjoyable summer-type movie eventually. I'm glad I read Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Better than it has any right to be. WAY better than the movie.
Despite the bluntness with which it works vampires into the American fabric, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a fun read... As a secret history... it rests on a good idea, and stays true to its own internal logic and to the world it builds for itself. Grahame-Smith's sophomore effort outlasts the kitsch value of its title, and freed from the constraints of updating (or defacing, depending on one's viewpoint) a revered literary gem, the writer delivers a well-constructed, surprisingly satisfying narrative that straight-faces its absurd premise: that Honest Abe, the 16th president of the United States, led a secret life slaying the fanged undead. I'll have to admit, I sort of had a love-hate relationship with this book. Belongs to SeriesTem a adaptação
While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |

Nothing too special. An alternate history of Abraham Lincoln involving vampires. (
