I thought the "How to use" page of the encyclopedia would be very useful to teachers instructing students on how to use a reference print encyclopedia or information book. The short and simple articles with the accompanying photo/illustration make this an excellent initial introduction to science concepts or terms for young readers and EAL learners. ( )

*PRINT ENCYCLOPEDIA* I found this Encyclopedia set to lack cover appeal and therefore not be appealing to the Elementary students it is intended for. I did like that the Encyclopedias each have a section on "How to use Student Discovery Science" that gives detailed instructions on guide words, cross-references, experiments and special features. I also liked the simple way the Encyclopedia is set up. There is a large letter of the alphabet to represent the words on the page. The words on the page are alos in large font and easily recognizeable. There are real photographs and also sketched illustrations which make understanding the information easier. At first glance, the Encyclopedias lack appeal, but upon further reading they are a great asset to any library Encyclopedia collection. ( )
