Like the story, Hidaka Shouko's art style has a sort of quiet beauty-- she uses clean, mostly straight lines to draw the characters while details like the hair, eyebrows and foliage have a sketch-like, rougher quality. This is one of the things that really attracted me to her work-- her art never feels too busy or crowded with tons of screentones, which allows the focus to stay on the characters' expressions and actions. Speaking of which, the way she draws facial expressions is a lot more subtle and less exaggerated than in many manga I've read, and I first I felt that the characters weren't expressive enough, but as I read on, I feel that this really suits the more realistic, mature storyline.
